Bare Necessities

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Louis has this one bikini style pair of “big boy” underwear in rusty orange that we bought in desperation one day when the mountain of laundry had yet to be washed and in these with his badly-in-need-of-a-haircut hair and his skinny little kid bod he looks just like Mowgli…

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That’s why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

*
And don’t spend your time lookin’ around
For something you want that can’t be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin’ about it
I’ll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you

This One is For Baby Ruby

Although not entirely appropriate – it is a great song.

In other news – scarf is finished!! The handrolling was a success!! I am so relieved. Will post as soon as I have it in The Odd Shop. I also just got a newly printed one in the mail yesterday so back to my rolling…think I might order one more after that and then see how it goes…

Robots big time with a request for this first video almost daily and Pingu…

“Pingu is a charming and cheeky young penguin who lives in the snow and ice of the South Pole. The mischievous penguin often finds himself in tricky and comical situations, but he always learns a valuable lesson.

Pingu spends his days with his parents and baby sister, Pinga, as well as his best friend, Robbie the seal. In Pingu’s community, everyone speaks “Penguinese”, a humorous, expressive and universal language.”

7 or 8 years ago I tried to replicate a knotted string market bag I had found at a thrift store. The project was in a old tupperware container that had been stored away while we were in New York. Made a tiny one out of string first and then tried it using neon utility cord from the hardware store, but the cord was too slippery and didn’t hold my knots. I don’t even think we had internet at home when I tried it the first time – seems so crazy. Now when I look online I see patterns for this everywhere…behold the mighty skill sharing of the wild web.

More of These (Prototype: Candleholder)

Was really struggling with the best way to make these with a more permanent material and then thought – maybe the fast-drying clay?? Maybe that would work? Still thinking of casting but then would plaster of paris or cement really do the job?? Would anyone go for a candleholder made of cement?? Hmmmm…

Been kinda offline for so long now – after the kids were born – that now I find it hard to get back on in a way. The internet moves so fast and furiously I feel like I have missed out on ten years instead of just two or three…I like the blog thing though – it feels like my own personal broadcast channel – like my own little radio show or something, but visual.

Good times outside and in. Got my fabric in the mail last week – it looks really great!! Now I am nervous because I am going to try to handroll the edges of it and I really don’t want to mess it up. Fingers crossed I don’t…I found this cute video on how to do it (if anyone else was wondering how it is done) – they say it takes years of practice! Oh man.
